The inspiration for this piece was the incorporation of my wonderful grandfather and my love for him. While taking an abstract approach, I composed a painting that incorporated all the things that I enjoyed throughout my life with him. I took acrylic paint and used a variety of colors to represent events or memories that I have shared with him. The red symbolized his heart while the bronze gives the illusion of his giving.
The lower portion of the composition is reality and representative of my youth and growing up at the beach house which was happy however the jetty in dark tones depicts when he was taken from me. I deliberately used these shades to express the balance between happiness and sadness throughout. I chose to frame a painted reproduction to encapsulate the image of my childhood depicting depth and dimension throughout the years.
